“Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity....He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.”

   Micah 7:18

Beloved, we have angered others. There have been times when this was warranted because we hurt or sinned against another person. Unfortunately, the relationship was severed because of our actions. In some instances, we apologized, sought forgiveness and restoration, but unfortunately, we were not received. There are those who remain angry despite repeated attempts to bring reconciliation.

Let us not believe that our Lord deals with us in the same manner, for we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. He who seeks forgiveness through repentance finds the mercy of God. The Lord is holy and just but willing to forgive. The Lord will pardon you today if you humble yourself beneath His mighty hand. There you shall find that the steadfast love of God will restore you.

“You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”

   Micah 7:19

Beloved, there are sins and faults we committed that we would rather forget. We have repented before our heavenly Father, but they still haunt us. The adversary of our souls never ceases in his attempt to bring condemnation, while others do not hesitate to remind us as well.

One would be tempted to lose heart under such a weight of guilt and shame. It is the knowledge of what God has done with our iniquity that brings us joy and peace. It is the Savior who removes our sins from us. Who creates within us a clean heart and a right spirit. When these memories arise, remind yourself of what God has done. Let the word of God silence all accusations, and may you know who you are in Christ.

The Lord has cast your sins into the depths of the sea; let them remain there.

“O Death, where are plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.”

   Hosea 13:14

Death and the grave seem to prevail. There is a heavy sorrow that burdens us when we remember those who have gone before us. Even with the hope of eternal life, we still grieve. For there is still this great divide that separates us from those we love and the moment when all things will be made new.

Our courage in the face of death is grounded in death's own destruction. The moment when death itself will cease to exist. There is no compassion from God for the grave. Behold the Christ the King who conquered sin and death. He sealed the fate of death while assuring everlasting life for His own. Let us rejoice in the final destruction of death.
