"My soul refuses to be comforted."

Psalm 77:2

Can a heart be inconsolable? Scripture answers the question for us. Hopefully, not all of God's children will experience such pain, but there will be those whose sorrow is beyond comprehension.

There are experiences that no friend or family member can carry us through. The counselor or pastor will have no words or satisfactory answer for why there is such depth of sorrow. No vacation or self-care will be able to remove the thorn of anguish. Time will not heal all wounds. No earthly remedy will do.

A broken spirit will not be the final state of the child of God. The Heavenly Father, the God of all comfort, will divinely intervene. He will come in the night season and lift the hurting heart from the pit of despair. God alone knows the timing of such mercy. We can be assured that God's lovingkindness endures forever, and He will comfort us in the end, though we may bear the marks of sorrow until God makes all things new.

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life."

Psalm 23:5-6

By God's grace, I am sure many of us enjoyed the Lord's provisions in fellowship and food during the recent celebrations of seasons. We enjoyed the company of family and friends. While partaking of these meals.

Beloved, we can be sure that God will always provide for His people. We should trust that the same provision in these recent meals will not be hindered even if we are surrounded by enemies.

The provisions we are speaking of are not mere food. God will supply every need no matter what form it comes in. The grace, peace, and mercy of God will always be our portion. We will never be separated from the goodness of God. His lovingkindness is unceasing. He will be sure to work all things for our good in any circumstance and watch over His people.

The goodness and mercy of the Lord shall follow you all the days of your life.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

Genesis 1:1

As we look to the New Year, it is good to remember that the Lord began all things. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. May we never hesitate to start a new venture or to seek change within ourselves in light of God's word.

There should be an assurance within our hearts that if we are seeking the will of God for our lives and delight in His will, the Lord will be an ever-present help.

God delights in new beginnings and promises to make His mercy new every morning. This is your hope for every day in the New Year and the rest of your life. If the Lord is your Shepherd, then His goodness and mercy will follow you.

Ask the Lord to begin a new work within your heart today. Ask Him to be the Lord of your life and for the grace to remain steadfast. Even if you are flawed, the Lord will begin a new work that will result in your redemptive well-being.
