"And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

James 1:4

Have you ever had a cold? Have you ever been ill and needed a prescription? With prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies, there are directions: how much and how long you should take the medicine to receive the full effects.

The need for steadfastness in our lives means we are in a trial, facing some form of difficulty that requires our patience. Usually, anything that calls for endurance is something we want to end sooner rather than later.

However, like a prescribed medication, there is a purpose for the length of time we must be steadfast. Patience must have its full effect in order for it to perform the desired result. Those areas of our lives that need burning and growth can come through patiently enduring the trials we face. The command is to "let steadfastness have its full effect." Surrender your will to God and ask Him to help you as you trust the Lord.

"Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight."

Psalm 119:143

Trouble and anguish do have a way of finding us, no matter how much we try to avoid this duo. They come uninvited and unannounced. Usually, they arrive at the most inopportune time and stay longer than anyone would want.

The child of God discovers in such moments that the word of God has a sustaining power. Scripture becomes the foundation to stand upon and the anchor to cling to. Amid the trouble and anguish, through scripture, peace abides, and faith secures the saint. Calming fears and bringing a hopeful expectation of the faithful goodness of God.

Beloved, if trouble has found you and anguish has come upon you, know that goodness and mercy are present. God will overcome the problem and anguish while working all things for your good. You will not be put to shame for trusting in the Lord

" Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Mark 2:17

It is that time of year when you see reminders to get the flu or Covid shot. For many the concern of Covid has come and gone. With the changing of the leaves, people become more aware of cold and flu-like symptoms and take the necessary preventive measures to be well.

Sadly, we should be more mindful of our souls' condition. Many assume that they are healthy but do not realize that they are dead in their sins and need the Savior. Others have not cast off those things that easily entangle them or have sought the Lord to create within them a clean heart.

We are regenerated in salvation once, but sanctification is an ongoing process. It is more than a seasonal occurrence; it is a daily need to surrender to the Holy Spirit. May we seek the healing our hearts need today from Christ. He alone can help us, and thankfully, the Lord is willing to cure us of all our diseases.
