"Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

John 14:27

This appeal to be not troubled would do us little good if it were not for the one who spoke them, for we are often troubled in this life. Many things would bring fear to the wise heart.

Such reassurance does not bring hope and strength unless spoken by one who can support the individual in trouble. Hear the words of our Lord today. He brings peace to us and reminds us that He is with us.

If your heart is troubled today, turn to the Lord. He has promised never to forsake you. To work all things for the good of your salvation and finish what He started in your life.

The words of our Lord are not empty or powerless. He is sovereign and is providentially working in your life. Entrust your fearful heart to the Lord.

"So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel."

Ezekiel 33:7

One morning, I observed a Canadian goose watching over her goslings while they fed. She stood tall with her head erect, looking intently around to ensure all was well.

This visual sight brought this verse to mind. God called Ezekiel to watch intently over the house of Israel. He was to get the proper message to God's people when needed. The pastor of today carries a similar responsibility. Pastors are called by God to keep watch over the Lord's people and are prepared to warn of any threats to the church while faithfully nourishing them.

The greatest comfort is that there is one watchman over all our souls. Jesus Christ, He is our King, Priest, and Prophet.

He is faithfully watching over us and renewing our spirits. There is nothing to fear while we are in the care of our Lord. He watches over us with warnings and exhortations. Let us receive His care this day and be not anxious for nothing.

"Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes."

Luke 12:37

There comes a time within every day that we grow weary. We understand this is a natural course of life. We discipline ourselves accordingly to be alert at the optimum moments within the day. This sense of maturity and responsibility guides us through the days of our lives.

Let us not neglect the same understanding regarding our spiritual need to be alert. To be watchful in regards to the return of our Lord. It is knowing that we will have to give an account unto Him for what we have done.

We must be ready and watchful of what the Lord may ask of us in our day. How would the Lord desire us to serve Him in any given circumstance? Let us prayerfully ask the Lord to enable us to be like Christ to those around us. A servant the Master finds awake when He returns.
