"Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law."

  Psalm 119:18

It is a privilege to read scripture daily. With this daily practice, we need the Spirit of God to open our understanding of His word.

Beloved, do not only read your Bible but seek God through His word. Prayerfully ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you through the word. Petition the Lord to open your eyes to the wonderous thing contained in His word.

Come to the Bible seeking wisdom through the precepts of God. The Holy Spirit must renew our minds by scripture and enable us to receive life from the word of God.

The Lord will faithfully guide you through this life as you set His word before you. The Holy Spirit will create in you a desire for God's word. His grace will stir your heart, respond to Him today, and take hold of the Bible.

"When I remembered God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints."

  Psalm 77:3

We are often encouraged to seek the Lord when our spirit is faint. But is it possible for a Christian to be so distraught that the remembrance of God and the meditation of His ways cause further perplexity?

It would appear the psalmist was in such a state of mind. When we pray for God's divine intervention in our lives, and the complete opposite of our request is the outcome. One can quickly become dismayed.

The sovereignty of the Lord is difficult to understand, accept, and believe to be good at times. Our thoughts deal with here and now. What we desire and define as good. The ways of God are higher than ours and take into account eternal things that we cannot now see or perceive.

God is loving and powerful. So why am I suffering? Why has He not answered in the way I believe He can? In light of this, when we think of God's goodness, we moan instead of rejoice.

What we are to be sure of is that God remains the same. He does not forsake us when we do not understand. The Lord does not leave us to ourselves when we cannot encourage ourselves in Him.

"You lead your people like a flock.." Psalm 77:20

Nothing can separate you from the love God has for you in Christ, not even your discouragement. God is still with you and working everything for the good of your salvation.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

  Matthew 5:14

The uncertainty of the times and the darkness that seems to loom over the culture could cause one to be anxious. The love of many has grown cold. Apprehension seems to be among God's people.

The nature of the church is light. The existence of the church is to be a light in the world. This light is not something the church possesses of itself. It's God's divine grace working within the lives of His people.

The Lord has set His church in a dark world to be light. It cannot be hidden or extinguished. You can observe the skyline of a city that illuminates the night. You can often identify a city by its skyline.

May we be recognized by the light of Christ in our lives. Ask the Lord to enable us to be a brighter witness for Him in our everyday lives. He will empower us to do so. The intention God has for His people is that we would be light in this world for Him.
