"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

Matthew 5:6

Hunger and thirst are the most basic needs. These desires compel us through each day to be satisfied. We would not suffer from thirst for very long before we seek refreshing, and the pangs of hunger equally call us to be gratified. Daily food and water bring life to us. How much more should we be aware of our spiritual hunger?

May our souls truly hunger and thirst for righteousness. As our physical bodies call for daily sustenance, let our spirit yearn for righteousness. The life born of the Holy Spirit begins to hunger for the word of God. It longs for the refresh that comes from God's presence and truth.

The blessing is that this desire the Lord will fulfill. A hungry life He will not turn away. Christ beckons the weary and thirsty to come unto Himself, promising they shall be satisfied. Come this day, beloved. The Lord shall fill you.

" Blessed are the meek, "

Matthew 5:5

Meekness is not easily provoked or disturbed by every insult or injury. It is patient but does not give up one's rights or is cowardly. Meekness is long-suffering, willing to forgive, and not vengeful.

There are times when we will have to assert our rights. But we do not do it at the expense of others. Meekness entrusts the outcome of every injury unto the Lord. Jesus works all things out for the good of our salvation.

The meek live as peaceably as they can with others. A meek heart cannot be easily disturbed with every little insult. It shows restraint and is not easily provoked. Only the Holy Spirit can work such grace in our hearts. Let us ask the Lord to give us humble hearts so that we are meek and demonstrate His lovingkindness.

"He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, "

1 Samuel 2:9

Beloved, sometimes we wonder if we will finish the race well. We see how there is a tendency to wander at times and we grow weary along the way. There are other moments when we are uncertain how to progress further, and doubt begins to cloud the mind.

Be reassured that if the Lord is our Shepherd, we are not left to ourselves. The Lord will faithfully watch over us all along the way. Every step the Lord has full knowledge of. He is keeping us from straying too far or from utterly falling away. The Spirit of God continues to refresh our hearts, renew our minds, and strengthen our faith. We will finish because God has promised to complete the work that He has begun in us and to supply sufficient grace.

Be encouraged today, dear one. God is guarding your steps.
