"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him."

   Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, yet the day of trouble comes providentially. They are not outside the experience of the believer. The days of trouble are not few either. The hardship and sorrow these circumstances bring can be overwhelming.

It is hard to fathom at times why hardship comes unto us. We must believe that God, in His goodness, measures out the day of trouble. Such moments are limited within His sovereignty. He knows those who are His and take refuge in Him.

The Lord will be a stronghold for His beloved in the day of trouble. God will supply a deep peace that keeps the spirit and mind of His people. He is faithful to work all things for the good of their salvation as they hide themselves in Christ. Do not be moved in the day of trouble. The Lord is your stronghold, and He knows what you are going through.

"The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary."

  Isaiah 50:4

The prophet does not speak of himself in these words. They are a Messianic in their fulfillment. Jesus is the anointed One whom the Father sent to speak words of comfort unto His people.

May we be encouraged this day that our Lord speaks wise words unto us that bring everlasting life. He knows how to heal the brokenhearted and to mend their wounds. In Him, the sinner finds redemption and refuge.

The Lord knows how to sustain the weary. To encourage the faint and to comfort those who mourn over their sin or the burden of care. God is the God of all comfort. The Holy Spirit brings the scriptures to life in our spirit so that we are revived. Lifted from despair and ushered into the mercy of God.

Hear the tender words of the Lord today. He will not abandon you and is working all things for the good of your salvation. His grace will prove to be sufficient and the peace of God will guard your heart.

"He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."

    Micah 7:19

These words would have reminded the Israelites of God's deliverance at the Red Sea and the triumph over the Egyptians. There the Lord opened the sea so His people could safely pass through. Then, their enemies were overcome by those waters, never to rise again.

We have no greater enemy than our transgressions. Our sins haunt us, and the flesh prevails unless the Spirit of God empowers us. It is this new life we have in Christ that enables us to be more than conquerors.

The Lord had compassion on us and continues with steadfast love towards us. The Lord has trampled our transgressions underfoot with His life. Casting our sins, the enemy of our soul, into the sea, never to rise again. There they remain, powerless, never to condemn or disgrace those who are redeemed.

Rejoice this day that the Lord has thrown your sins into the sea. You have been born again by the Spirit of God and cleansed by the blood of the Lamb.
