"God, be merciful to me, a sinner! "

Luke 18:13

We come to the Lord with no righteousness of our own. There is nothing we could offer, no claim to make. We cannot boast in ourselves, for we are sinners. We cannot promise to do better, for we are sinners. Our only hope is in God showing mercy to us in Christ.

The Gospel gives us this hope. For while we were dead in sin, Christ died for us. Before God, we humble ourselves as sinners seeking His mercy. We cannot save ourselves or keep ourselves. Only a merciful God can.

Come to the Lord today, beloved. Seek God for His mercy and cast yourself before the throne of grace. Acknowledge that you are a sinner saved by grace and always dependent upon His mercy. God will keep you and will finish the work He started in you.

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God..."

1 Peter 5:6

There is no better position than humility to take in the morning before the Lord and than to ask Him for the grace to abide in a spirit of humility.

We do well in quietly submitting to His will and patiently bearing through any trials that may come our way. Trust that God is working everything for the good of our salvation. It may be hard to see and believe in every circumstance that everything is working to that end, but we can trust the Lord in all things.

The posture of humility should be expressed towards one another daily as well. It is there that pride is crucified. We learn to bear with one another and to forgive as the Lord has dealt with us. Only in light of the cross and by the working of the Holy Spirit will the human heart be brought into humility. Let us seek to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God today because He has been merciful unto us, sinners saved by grace alone.

"I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite."

Isaiah 57:15

God, who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, who is Holy, draws us unto Himself. With this fellowship comes the assurance of God's mercy in our lives. He is willing to comfort us, to revive us, and to lift the downcast.

Our lives are but a vapor, like the morning mist that soon dissipates with the rising sun. God has compassion for our fragile state and has sent the Comforter. The Holy Spirit is with you today, beloved. He will not abandon you but strengthen and comfort you.

Bring your tired heart to the Lord and ask Him to revive your spirit. God will not turn you away. He has promised to keep you. The Lord will be faithful unto this end.
