"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

Lamentations 3:22-23

In the midst of his lament, Jeremiah recalls God's steadfast love, mercy, and faithfulness.

Beloved, perhaps you are laden with sorrow today? Does it appear that the circumstances of life are against you? Maybe you felt that things were coming together for you, only to be disappointed. Let not your heart be troubled and hope in God.

The day could have started with difficulty but God's mercy has been made new for you in greater measure. Nothing will change the faithfulness of the Lord in your life. He will bring you through this season. God remains steadfast in His love toward you.

The Lord will not depart from you or remove His help. God is for His people and for those who have put their trust in Him. Though you do not see the hand of God now, rest assured He is at work and His purposes will be fulfilled in your life. God's mercy never comes to an end.

"So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous."

Proverbs 2:20

Sadly, many hikers become lost every year when they venture off trails marked for their safety. Some trials are kept clear of debris and are identified with reflector markers. These trails are easily identified compared to the untamed forest.

Beloved, the good way, and the righteous path are identified by the word of God. The life that has been born of the Spirit longs for this path. The child of God desires to keep the righteous. They find God's mercy enables them to walk this trail.

It is not always easy to navigate the narrow path. There are times when we must count the cost. But every traveler knows they do not walk it alone. The Good Shepherd leads the way, it is by His strength and guidance we make are way.

Christ will lead us safely home, so let us keep in the narrow way that leads to eternal life.

"Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor the fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation."

Habakkuk 3:17-18

God is not a means to an end. Some of the preaching we hear today emphasizes what God can do for you rather than the glory of the Lord Himself.

The teacher will tell you how to be prosperous and how much to sow to be blessed. The emphasis is on having success in every area of your life, which is why you should serve God. But is this true? Do we serve God for what He can do for us or are we to serve the Lord because He is God?

Beloved, there is nothing wrong with looking for or expecting God's blessing in our life. However, the Lord must be the reward of our life first. If we see none of the blessings we should still trust and obey Him. Habakkuk chose to trust, rejoice, and worship God no matter how difficult life became. Let us follow his example and worship the Lord no matter what comes this day.
