"My little children."

John 2:1

It serves as a good reminder that we are God's children. We will always need our Savior, the work of the Holy Spirit, and our Father's mercy. God has never asked us to get by on our own. Let us stop trying to do things in our own strength and wisdom.

We are saved by grace alone and remain in constant need of God's mercy. Just as a child depends on the love and provision of its parents, so we are dependent on the heavenly Father.

You are not in this world alone. You are not dependent upon yourself. God is with you.

"Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways."

Haggai 1:5

We are saved by grace alone in Christ, but we still must reflect upon our ways. The true believer considers their ways daily. It is something that should be prayerfully considered in the morning. Periodically throughout the day, we asses our ways as impressed upon by the Holy Spirit. It would also be beneficial for us to reflect on our ways in the evening, asking ourselves if our day was pleasing to the Lord.

We do not determine our ways by our definition but in light of scripture. We prayerfully ask the Lord to show us His ways and for the Spirit to enable us to conform to the likeness of Christ.

Our hope is knowing that God has promised to finish the good work He has begun in us. When we pray according to the Bible, the Spirit of God will change us and help us daily. Let us consider our ways today.

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."

1 Peter 5:8

As someone who hunts and fishes, there is an element of surprise and stealth. We try to outsmart the quarry you are pursuing. You will never hear a hunter loudly entering the woods or someone fishing while banging a pan.

The hunter will try to cover their scent, and someone fishing will use a lure to attract a fish. The enemy of your soul will not come with loud tactics or announcing his scheme. It is the subtle trials and temptations of life. The little effects of unforgiveness, fears, anger, and any other work of the flesh that he incites.

We are to be watchful for ourselves and to keep in mind the enemy is seeking to inhibit and maim us. Our folly affects not only ourselves but others as well. We can miss a blessing if we allow the enemy to side-track us with subtle distractions.

Let us be strong in the Lord today. Trust the Holy Spirit to empower us, for when we resist the enemy, he will flee from us. Be sober and watchful today.
