"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest."

John 4:35

One of the things we learn as children is how to look for something. We asked our parents where a particular item was, and they responded by encouraging us to look for it. They ask questions about how you searched for what was missing and give instructions on how to look effectively. You cannot expect to find something in a closet or cupboard without moving other items that might be in the way. Whatever is obstructing your line of sight needs to be removed.

Jesus instructed His listeners to lift their eyes and see that the fields were white for harvest. We will not see the harvest around us unless we are looking. Perhaps things are obstructing our view? Our desires and problems inhibit us from seeing others.

Let us lift our eyes and see the lives around us that need Christ. We need to be looking intentionally knowing that there is a harvest ready to be brought in. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes so that we might see clearly today.

"Paul, an apostle-not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-"

Galatians 1:1

Paul knew who he was in Christ. He knew why God had called him and that the work he was supposed to do came from the Lord. Paul does not indicate that any of this originated with himself. The calling and the anointing to do the work of the Lord all came from the Lord and depended upon the Holy Spirit.

Beloved, let us be leery of those who profess to have sacrificed much for the anointing. Some speak of themselves obtaining the favor of God because they are living in an extraordinarily spiritual way. This may have an appearance of humility or some superior godliness, but it brings attention to the person rather than Christ.

We do not have any record in scripture where the prophet, priest, or apostle did something to obtain the anointing or their calling. It begins and ends with God. There is a mandate upon all Christians to live in Christ. There are no distinctions. We are to be holy because God is holy. The calling of God on our lives and the anointing to perform the work of the Lord is not anything we conjure up. The Lord calls all of us into His service and the Spirit empowers us to do it. Let us rely upon the Lord and understand what the Lord has called us to do today.

"It is vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep."

Psalm 127:2

It can be an advantage to rise early with intentions to accomplish a task or to stay up late to ensure that responsibilities are taken care of. However, this does not always guarantee success. These actions require a disciplined and mature character, but in all of this, we still must look to the Lord for His will and guidance.

Things done in our strength can lead us to eat the bread of sorrow. Our strength is fleeting, our wisdom imperfect, and we do not have a clear understanding of the future. Only God is omnipotent, wise, and eternal.

We must look to the Lord for all things. We must depend upon Him and follow the Lord. In the will of God is sleep for His beloved. The Lord grants rest to those who look to Him and rely upon His grace and provision. Let us trust the Lord today.
