A Great Wind / October 2nd

"The Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea,..

The sea grew more and more tempestuous.

So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly,"

Jonah 1:4,11,15 -16

Not every storm in life is the result of sin. Sin and disobedience will produce trouble. Jonah's disobedience to God brought the great wind into his life. The wind and turbulent sea express God's wrath against sin. Only when Jonah is hurled into the water did the seas cease from raging. What a frightening experience for the mariners to behold.

Our sin, beloved, should bring the same fear of God into our lives. Thankfully, in Christ, we have propitiation. Our sin was laid upon Him at Calvary. God's wrath was poured out because of our sins. But the sinless sacrifice of Christ redeemed us. Atonement was made, and the debt, penalty, and power of sin were broken. The sea has ceased from its raging and the peace of God is with you in Christ.

In Christ alone,

Pastor Wight
