"For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."

1 Corinthians 11:26

Every family has a unique way of greeting one another or saying goodbye. My mother will say faithfully each time, "Goodbye for now." This is the acknowledgment of departure but the anticipation of coming together again. The absence is momentary, so don't be too sad.

The teaching here in Paul's letter concerning communion has the same feeling. I think Christ wants us to think of Him this way when we partake of the Lord's supper.

We are remembering what Christ has done for us and we are to partake often until He comes but that is part of the point. It is "Goodbye for now."

Christ is coming back for His people and we should look forward to it.

The separation is momentary. We will see Jesus and all those who have gone before us. Look forward to that day and may you love Christ's appearance.

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Wight
