"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5
It is difficult at times not to depend upon our understanding alone. Trials of life cause us to reconsider the things we believe. We hold to a particular ideology and it is tested. Our faith is tried and our convictions are put to the test. Even what we understand to be true of God is faced with questions.
In this, we do not want to hold to our limited understanding of life and God. We must turn to His word seeking that the Holy Spirit renew our minds according to scripture. To deepen our understanding of God and to lift our thoughts to a greater awe of the Lord.
God has given us wisdom, reason, and understanding. But these must be illuminated and shaped by the scripture. May we not hold only to our understanding but acknowledge our need for God in all things.
