"I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought."
1 Corinthians 1:10
The command from scripture to be perfectly united is difficult to fulfill. It is a challenge for the body of Christ to be perfectly united in mind and thought in the local assembly when we consider all of God's people represented in every church. Not every church agrees on what we call secondary issues. However, we consider one another brothers and sisters in Christ when we agree on the essentials.
The most loving couples and families find it a challenge to be agreeable with one another at all times. To be perfectly united, each day on every topic or decision in mind and thought.
One of the blessings of heaven is the fulfillment of this verse. Though, we strive now by God's grace to see it done in our immediate lives. Heaven will reveal a perfect unity not yet realized here. In the Lord's eternal kingdom, we all will be of one mind and thought. Absolute peace will be between every one of God's people. This should cause us to long for God's kingdom and the harmony we will experience.
Let us live this day in light of that hope, and may it be fulfilled in part now, in our hearts, homes, and churches.
