"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
1 Timothy 6:12
How does one fight the good fight of faith? Paul the apostle exhorted the young pastor Timothy to be strong. To fight the good fight of faith and never give up. Do you think Paul wanted Timothy to do this in his strength? Was Timothy or any of us supposed to fight on in faith so that one day we may lay hold of eternal life?
Paul is telling Timothy to fight the good fight of faith but accomplish this by laying hold of eternal life today. Eternal life is not something yet to come. It is a quality of life now. It is present now in the life of the believer. You are a new creation in Christ. The only way we or Timothy can fight the good fight of faith is if the Holy Spirit enables us. If grace is made sufficient in our lives and if we are abiding in Christ today.
We fight the good fight of faith by depending upon the life we have in Christ, eternal life. It is what Christ has accomplished and continues to work in us through the Spirit of God that enables us to fight. He is your strength and peace today.
